Parent Advocacy Training Course

This free online course helps parents and educators build knowledge and confidence as they become advocates for their children living with hearing loss and work with local school districts and service providers.

Once you've completed this training program, you will be able to:

• Demonstrate your critical role in the IEP process and describe the legal framework of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), a law ensuring intervention and educational services for children with disabilities.
• Utilize the four-step process for creating the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). This is a process for identifying and evaluating a child with a disability, and developing and implementing a plan for obtaining services.
• Apply the Know-Act-Do Negotiation Model (KAD) for your child. This negotiation model is designed to aid in the preparation process for the IFSP/IEP meeting, on how to act during the meeting, and what to do for proper follow-up after the meeting.
