Accepting Applications for LOFT Program

This summer the Leadership Opportunities for Teens (LOFT) program will bring teens together for an unforgettable experience as they strengthen skills in individual leadership, teamwork, group dynamics, public speaking and self-advocacy. Teens also build connections, respect and camaraderie with other teens who share a common bond. This is a great opportunity for high school and college-bound teens interested in an enlightening and confidence-building experience away from home with their peers.

One LOFT participant wrote, "Thank you so much for giving me this incredible opportunity to connect with so many people, and for giving me a life-changing experience." Let LOFT make 2016 life-changing for you! Two sessions are being planned in Denver, Colorado this summer. The deadline to apply for LOFT is March 18. Two Grant Opportunities for Research on Early Intervention

Two new grant opportunities are available for 2016 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). University and other academic and professional partners that utilize medical, social and basic science, and public health approaches are encouraged to apply. The grants include the following:  

  • RFA - R16 - 01 - EHDI Parents (Pilot)
    Project Title: Improving the Coordination and Documentation of Enrollment Into Early Intervention for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children through Parent Empowerment

  • RFA - R16 - 02 - EHDI Using EHDI to Assess Outcomes
    Project Title: Using Existing Early Intervention Data to Assess Outcomes Among Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children

Cochlear Implant University Deadline Approaching

High school and college students with cochlear implants and parents of students who are in high school or college, and not necessarily the parents of students in the study, are invited to participate in a research study to help evaluate Cochlear Implant University (CIU) which is an interactive, self-advocacy, skills-building online resource.

Chapter leaders: KDH Research & Communication (KDHRC) the firm conducting this research, will offer a $500 gift to the AG Bell chapter that enrolls the most participants in the study. Click here to find out more. The deadline to enroll is February 29.

Take the Internet Captioning Survey

Do you watch videos on the Internet? Take a few minutes to tell us about your experiences while watching videos with closed captioning on the Internet. Your responses will help us identify gaps in captioning coverage and identify ways to close the gaps. This survey is a joint effort of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), Telecommunications for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing, Inc. (TDI), Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD) and National Association of the Deaf (NAD). Click here to access the survey and respond by March 4. Contact TDI with questions.

New! Blog for Adults Post-Implantation

American Cochlear Implant Alliance is delighted to announce the introduction of a new blog on adult rehabilitation. Written by Naama Tsach Ph.D., a speech-language pathologist, the blog is intended for adults who have (or will soon receive) cochlear implants. Tsach created the blog because she has found common topics and experiences that are important to share.
