Deaf and Hard of Hearing Adults Address AG Bell’s Board of Directors
As a follow-up from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Adult Town Hall meeting held during the 2012 AG Bell Convention in Scottsdale, Arizona, Kristen Buehl Zlogar and David Davis presented a proposal to the board of directors. Ms. Zlogar presented in person at the Volta Bureau, while David Davis participated via Skype conference call from Los Angeles, California. The presentation was based on a proposal submitted by a working group including Ms. Zlogar and Mr. Davis as well as the following AG Bell members: Ms. Rachel Dubin, Ms. Lisa Goldstein, and Dr. Pauline Newton.
The presentation covered areas where there are opportunities for deaf adults to increase their involvement with AG Bell. Specific recommendations included:
- Establishing a forum for adults to network and connect electronically
- Leverage the experience of adults living with hearing loss to develop a mentor program to support families, children, adults with hearing loss and professionals.
- Add more resources for adults with hearing loss to the Listening and Spoken Language Knowledge Center
- Consider online courses and programs for adults with hearing loss.
As a follow up to the report, AG Bell’s board of directors approved a motion requesting that the working group continue to develop their proposals for inclusion in AG Bell’s program planning for 2013 and beyond.
Fall Open House at the Volta Bureau a Great Success
AG Bell hosted a Fall Open House at our historic headquarters building, the Volta Bureau, on the evening of November 2. Musical entertainment was provided by the talented Wendy Cheng (violin) and Janice Faye Rosen (clarinet) who are members of the Association of Adult Musicians with Hearing Loss, which was founded by Ms. Cheng.
